PC Assembly and Troubleshooting Simulator
Learn PC parts, practise virtual assembly and explain a fault using evidence, a safe check and a clear English repair note.
Your learning goal
Explain one component’s job and support a diagnosis with a check, a result and a reason.
Understand the idea
A working PC depends on compatible parts, power, correct connections and software. RAM holds active working data; storage keeps files when power is off. A symptom does not always identify a failed part.
Use Learn the parts before Build your PC. The virtual workbench lets you compare components and follow assembly steps. Diagnose and OS & drivers provide different kinds of fault investigation.
Troubleshoot one possible cause at a time. Note what you observed, what you tested and whether the symptom changed. The simulator is a learning model, not a substitute for a device’s service instructions.
Worked example
- Symptom: the PC appears to start, but the display is blank. Do not immediately conclude that the GPU has failed.
- First check the monitor power, selected input and display connection in your scenario. Record what the check tells you.
- Repair note: “The display was blank. I checked the monitor input. It was set to the wrong input, so I selected the connected input and tested again.” This is an example, not the answer to every case.
Try it step by step
- Use Learn the parts to compare CPU, RAM and storage. Explain their different jobs.
- Enter the build lab, inspect compatibility and follow the guided steps.
- Open Diagnose or the computer-repair mission. Record evidence before proposing a solution.

Teacher notes and sample answers
Look for distinct component roles and a diagnosis supported by evidence. Several checks may be reasonable. Real internal work requires power disconnection and appropriate supervision; never open a power supply.
