Pair Flip: English Classroom Activity

Remember English–Thai meaning pairs and explain them after the cards are hidden. Includes a worked example and printable pair activity.

Suggested: A1; adapt the difficulty to the learner • 10 minutes

Your learning goal

Remember English–Thai meaning pairs and explain them after the cards are hidden.

Understand the idea

Turn over cards and look for an English word and its Thai equivalent. Remembering a location helps during play, but the learning target is the meaning pair.

Say both meanings when you find a pair. At the end, hide the board and retrieve three words. A learner who remembers the positions but not the words needs another recall activity.

Worked example

  1. “water” and น้ำ form a pair; “water” and หนังสือ do not.
  2. After the cards close, say “water” and use it in “I drink water.”

Try it step by step

  1. Open Pair Flip and choose a suitable difficulty. Start with Easy if the skill is new.
  2. Play a short round. Discuss one choice before moving on; explain the meaning or rule rather than its screen position.
  3. Hide the board and explain three pairs from memory.

Teacher notes and sample answers

Pairs: book–หนังสือ, water–น้ำ, chair–เก้าอี้. Recall after hiding is stronger evidence than remembered card locations.
