Listening for meaning

Two routines, three differences

Listen twice. Identify differences in sleep, drinks, and after-school activity.

  1. Who gets more sleep?
  2. What does Beam drink at lunch?
  3. What does Fern do after school?

Reading for meaning

A realistic one-week reset

Read and identify helpful habits, unhelpful habits, and the writer’s change plan.

During exam week, my routine became messy. I stayed up late to revise, but I also spent too much time checking messages between study sessions. In the morning I often skipped breakfast because I woke up late. By the afternoon I felt tired and wanted a very sweet drink. One helpful habit was walking home from the songthaew stop instead of asking for a ride. That short walk helped me relax. This week I am not trying to change everything. I will put my phone away thirty minutes before bed and prepare a simple breakfast at night. I will also carry a water bottle to school. Compared with a perfect plan, these changes are small, but they are realistic. If they help me sleep and concentrate better, I can add another healthy habit next week.
  1. What makes the study breaks longer?
  2. What helpful habit does the writer have?
  3. What changes will the writer try?

Use it

Listen, then change the details

Thai meaning

Mint

Compared with that, water and a short walk might help more.

Thai meaning

Thai meaning

สัปดาห์นี้ฉันจะลองดู

Quantifiers, comparatives, and gentle advice

Use too much or too many for more than is useful, enough for the amount you need, and a little or a few for small amounts. Use comparatives such as healthier and better to compare choices. Use should for clear advice and could or might for softer suggestions. Frequency expressions such as usually, often, and sometimes make habits more precise.

More practice
  • Describe one habit and its effect.
  • Compare two everyday choices.
  • Give one suggestion with should and a softer version with might.
